DIY Dr. Suess Burlap Framed Wood Art

How to Make a Dr. Suess Burlap Framed Wood Art

What you will need:

Cameo Silhouette Cutting Machine (or Circuit)
Vinyl Wall Adhesives on a Roll (Solid Black)
Silhouette Scraper Tool
Tacky Glue (In case you have trouble with the letters not sticking to the Burlap)
A sheet of Burlap Paper - You can find at any Hobby Lobby or Michaels (Scrapbook Section)
A Frame of your Choice

Download Dr. Soos Font Type or I used Marker Felt in Silhouette Font Section

Make sure to make the first letter of Each Sentence a slightly larger font.

Cut the Font out on the Vinyl Adhesive using your Cameo.
Carefully position the letters onto the burlap using the scraping tool.

Use the glass inside the frame as a guide to centering your words and letters.

Cut your excess edges and place into frame.

I found a 8x10 print with exact same font type and wording for $20.  The print cost me around $5.00 to make.  The frame can be purchased at Michaels.  It is an adorable addition to any nursery or can be used for any Dr. Suess themed party.

DIY Truffula Trees or Truffula Flowers (Dr. Suess' The Lorax)

WEN is a WIN for POSTPartum Hair or That MID Thirties Hormone Mess of Hair

For those mommies who know what I am talking about when I say....

BOOBs need a lift
Everything Hangs a little lower these days
Bags Under the eyes - SLEEP deprivation!!!

So I went through about 2 years after my 3rd Pregnancy of Hormonal HAIR Hell!!!

HOW would I describe my hair pre-babies...

(Me aka The RHoTC) The goofball waving at the camera at Post Grad Commencement

Check out the sheen, the straight thick manageable locks that lay beautifully next to my melon.  Can you believe I used to complain about how hard it was to take care of... or that I just wanted a cute short bob like the lead singer of Wilson Phillips back in the 80's.  I pictured myself looking like BOZ from Some Kind of Wonderful .... short messy and multicolored.  (Insert Child of the 80's)  I laugh about it now... but .. WOW.. how I wish I could turn back time and slap myself in the face and say.....

"SNAP out of It"  (Classic Quote from Moonstruck)

Now... Mid Thirties... 3 Babies later... this was my hair prior to using WEN:

Weird random curl, fuzzy strands, breakage, dry brittle hair.  It is amazing how hormones just reck havoc on hair, body and skin.

I had seen all these late night infomercials about Chaz Dean and his Wen Products.  I saw before and after results and I was desperate to try something to restore my old lifeless hair.

(Photo Image Courtesy of Wen Hair Care online)

I began with the Sweet Almond Mint Intensive Cream Conditioning Shampoo and LOVED it!!

NOW.... It took me a weeks worth of using to get used to the NON-Lathering of this shampoo.  IT cleans despite clear evidence of a sudsy lather.  TRY it for a week and you will notice how WONDERFUL this product actually is.

Besides all the research I have found on soaps that lather and create intense bubbles are not good for the skin or the body.

I recently went to a Girl Night Out and was delighted when a friend walked up to me and said....."YOU are a WEN girl, aren't you???"  You can spot them in a room.

Healthy, full of life and a beautiful sheen!! That is how I can tell if someone is faithfully using WEN products by Chaz Dean.

Ridiculous duck face pic - Me on the left -
Most recent pic I have of my WEN investment and I hope it shows that its paying off.

NOW... I am never going to have what I had in my 20's but I can work with what I got!!!

Enjoy what you got today cause it could be gone tomorrow!!!

Meanwhile USE WEN ....its a WIN!!!

Congratulations goes out to Second Betty for being the Featured Cover Story in Arts & Society!

Congratulations goes out to Second Betty on a wonderful article in this Month's Arts and Society Magazine.

What a wonderful article that details such a fabulous store in Morton and Peoria Heights!
I had the priviledge of learning how to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint from Cindy Davis (owner of Second Betty).  She has two locations and offers various workshops and classes to learn how to use this paint.

In recent posts, I have posted my experiences with using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.  The paint can be applied to a number of surfaces and can be used to create numerous types of finishes.

It is a great time to stop in and learn how to use this paint due to the influx of garage sales and the start of Second Sunday in Bloomington/Normal.  You can find some great wood pieces and create a completely new piece of furniture with this paint.  Check her store out and ALSO check out their featured article in Arts & Society (Second Betty's Cover Story in May - June edition).

Harmful Toxins we put ON/IN our bodies everyday! A list Of Everyday Hygiene Products and Ingredients to Consider When Purchasing.

Have you ever took a shower and looked at the ingredients on the back of your shampoo, conditioner or body wash bottles?  Do you know what these ingredients are or where they are derived from:

Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Methylisothiazolinone, Etidronic Acid

or how about...

Cyclopentasiloxane, stearyl alcohol, phenyl trimethicone, or cyclodextrin

Which I found these ingredients on the back of my Secret PH balanced Antiperspirant/deodorant.

What about the very vague ingredients list on the back of your everyday Crest 3D White toothpaste tube ... which lists ONLY the active ingredient (Sodium Fluoride 0.243%).  What makes up the other 99%  NON-Active ingredients?

Consumers are becoming more aware of the dangerous chemicals and GMO's that are being injected into our everyday foods and are opting for more organic produce, less preservatives, and more hormone free meats and dairy products.  BUT... are they considering what dangerous chemicals they are putting on their skin, teeth, hair, and/or nails?  I think not!!

Proctor and Gamble which is a key player in producing America's favorite hygiene products has showed no sign of loss when evaluating their stock recently.  At $80.79 per share with a Share Volume of over 13,000,000 .. people are buying chemically enhanced toothpaste, shampoos, conditioner and deodorant.

Your Skin is the largest organ on your body.... you need to consider what you put on it and in it.

Here is a list of EVERYDAY Hygiene Products and Ingredients you Will find in MOST Popular Products to Consider and their potential harmful effects

1.  Deodorant/Antiperspirant

There are a list of harmful ingredients in Deodorant that you should consider when purchasing.

Look at labels and avoid the following ingredients in your deodorant:
***Avoid Aluminum - it has been linked to some cancers and early stages of Alzheimer's Disease

***Avoid Parabens - Parabens have been linked to BIRTH DEFECTS and ORGAN TOXICITY in CHILDREN.  In addition Parabens have been linked to EARLY Puberty in Children and Hormonal Cancers.

Avoid Propylene Glycol - This makes the deodorant slick or petroleum like consistency.  It has been linked to damage in Central nervous system, liver and heart.

Avoid Phthalates - Using this chemical during pregnancy has caused birth defects.

Avoid Triclosan - It helps kills odor caused by the body and it has been labeled by the FDA as a pesticide and the EPA listed it as a probable carcinogen.  You will find Triclosan in many soaps, hand wipes and gels.

Some examples for Healthier and Non-Toxic Choices for Deodorant/Antiperspirant

1. Dr. Hauschka Deodorant Fresh
Witch hazel and sage extracts absorb odor without clogging pores, and essential oils provide a light citrus scent for all-day freshness.(
2. Erbaviva Jasmine Grapefruit Organic Deodorant
Essential oils of jasmine, grapefruit, ginger, cedarwood, cypress, sage, and lemon give this spray a subtle, sweet scent. (
3. Origins Totally Pure Deodorant
Organic white willow bark and lavender-infused alcohol control odor. The spice-scented blend is USDA certified organic. (
4. Bubble and Bee Organic Pit Putty
Arrowroot powder absorbs moisture while organic lemon and clove oils work to leave the skin smelling fresh. (
5. Terressentials Lavender Fresh Deodorant
The lavender formula helps neutralize odors—even the sulfur compounds that can result from eating garlic. (
6. Kiss My Face Liquid Rock Roll-On Deodorant
This liquefied crystal deodorant rolls on easily and neutralizes body odors without covering them up with other scents. (

*** I recommend strongly avoiding these ingredients when purchasing Deodorant***

2.  Toothpaste

When purchasing Toothpaste please consider avoiding these ingredients listed:

Avoid Sodium Fluoride - According to many studies .. it is the same ingredient in Rat Poisoning. Minimal Ingestion of Sodium Fluoride would cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and gastric pain.  Larger doses of sodium fluoride ingested will cause paralysis, respiratory and cardiac failure.

Avoid FD &C  Blue Dyes 1 & 2 - the dyes that tint the toothpaste blue have been linked to asthma, headaches, nausea, behavioral changes, anxiety and some cancer.

Avoid Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) - it is the agent that causes the bubbling or foaming when scrubbing.  IT is has been found in many mascaras and several top names acne medicines.  THIS AGENT IS ALSO FOUND IN "NO More TEARS" Soap for Children.  It can cause problems with eye development, hair growth issues, and is a skin irritant.  If found in eyes it can cause early cataract in adults.

Avoid Tricolsan-  IT is a pesticide and you are ingesting that in your mouth.  It has been found to be stored in body fat which in turn causes toxicity in your circulatory system.

1. Herbal Choice Natural Tooth Gels – this brand is my favorite for its short and simple list of ingredients in its Cinnamon and Baking Soda flavor (though all flavors have similarly short ingredient lists): Purified Water (pure water), Calcium Carbonate (a natural mineral tooth polish), Cinnamon (organic), Tea Tree (organic), Lavender (organic), Guar Gum (natural plant gum) & Baking Soda (natural mineral).

2. Tom’s of Maine “Clean and Gentle” thoothpaste

3. Perfumes and Colognes

The average perfume/cologne bottles contains 14 secret ingredients/chemicals not listed on the bottle.  Many of these chemicals have been found in stored fat and breast milk.

Some of the most common chemicals in perfumes are ethanol, acetaldehyde, benzaldehyde, benzyl acetate, a-pinene, acetone, benzyl alcohol, ethyl acetate, linalool, a-terpinene, methylene chloride, styrene oxide, dimenthyl sulphate, a-terpineol, camphor, and limonene.  Some of these chemicals cause irritability, mental vagueness, muscle pain, asthma, bloating, joint aches, sinus pain, fatigue, sore throat, eye irritation, gastrointestinal problems, laryngitis, headaches, dizziness, swollen lymph nodes, spikes in blood pressure, coughing, and burning or itching skin irritations.

Read more:

Acetaldehyde is a huge toxin and is listed as a probable carcinogen.  It is known to cause headaches, convulsions, tremors and even possible death.

Use Essential Oils or Jojoba Oils for Alternatives to Perfumes
and Colognes.

4.  Soap, Body Wash, Shampoos/Conditioners

Soaps, Body Wash and Shampoos all contain similar ingredients that you will find in toothpaste and Antiperspirants.

Please consider avoiding these ingredients when purchasing your body products:

***Avoid Parabens - These are some of the main ingredients in most soap, Shampoos, and Body Washes.  It has been linked to breast cancer and this chemical has been absorbed in the body and has been found in breast tumors.

Avoid Synthetic Colors such as Colors labeled FD & C  Blue, Red ... or D & C Red 27 - These are labeled human carcinogens and have been directly linked to ADHD in Children.

Avoid Phthalates -  This is found in Most hairsprays, finger nail polishes, deodorants, lotions, and perfumes.  It is been linked to early breast development in girls, reproductive birth defects. In addition, they have found a link to breast cancer from this particular chemical.

Avoid Toulene -  if pregnant or wanting to become pregnant this agent has been linked to developmental damage in the fetus.   Causes immune system toxicity and effects the respiratory system and irritates the skin.

*** Strongly recommend considering avoiding this ingredient the side effects are horrendous and very alarming***

To protect our children.... we need to educate ourselves on the effects of everyday products we use on our bodies.  I believe that the products we use are directly related to childhood cancers, ADHD, Autism, Asthma and many other diseases and conditions that seem to be plaguing our children today.  We need to correct the problem and create safer alternatives for our children.
